CYPRUS IDYLL

What could be better, after a hot day at the beach, than a ride in the hills in the cool of the evening?

A 20 minute drive from the coast at Polis into the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, passing through flower-decked, stone-walled villages and harvested fields and orchards, and one arrives at the stables down a dirt track.

Caroline has five lovely horses, one of whom, recovering from a cracked rib, accompanied our ride all tacked up but running loose.

Passing an abandoned Turkish village, a loose pig caused an anxious moment, followed by the only vehicle we met in 2 hours trailing a long black hosepipe on the track with a precipice on one side!!   As dusk was falling we arrived back safely, with the loose horse, Shadow, out in front looking forward to his feed.

This lovely ride certainly satisfied my withdrawal symptoms at being away from Peachy for over 2 weeks!   Sometime I must spend longer and join one of Caroline’s treks further into the mountains, where one would certainly see a different side of Cyprus from that of the normal tourist areas.
