June & July newsletter

Welcome to the June- July Newsletter Earlier in June to celebrate the Jubilee we ran another popular polework and prosecco event on the bank holiday Friday with Dawn followed by some showjumping training on the Saturday. The following weekend saw a full day training at Milton Keynes eventing Centre where Jane Dawson took riders around the brand new outdoor arena with bright scary fillers in the morning. The riders relaxed at lunchtime with a bring and share Lunch followed by cross country training on the grass course in the afternoon. In preparation for our evening dressage competition, we held a monday test riding clinic with Tina Attfield at Ion farm working on impressing the judges in the white boards. We had lots of great feed back and would be happy to run these regularly. The June evening Dressage was a rather hot one, but it didn't put too many riders off. Prelim 2 was won by Hayley Knibbs who was impressively riding sidesaddle and best member 2nd place was Christine Upchurch. Prelim 12 was a joint win for src member Tilly Gill and for Gabrielle Morgan. We hope to see lots of you for our 3rd in the series on 21 July at Wakes End. July is super busy with area 7 qualifiers in Eventing, Showjumping and also Dressage to Music and a new qualifier for intro Dressage. To be held at Moulton college and for riders at intro and prelim level there is a team competition, individual and mixed intro pairs. Championship to be held at Bury farm 30th September. If you'd like to compete for the club at intro or prelim dressage or you're a dressage to music diva please get in touch with team manager Emily Steaggles emily@design92.co.uk Luffenhall sj & xc day training is open to book now with trainers Petros Spiliopoulos & Dawn Fitzhugh on Saturday July 16th. We had both excellent individual and team results. 2nd Open Team Shillington Solar Eclipse ( Pippa Dixon Katy Stockley , Lizzie Dodd , Steph Staples ) 4th Open Team Shillington Supernova ( Lauren-Claire Simmonds , Emily Steaggles, Rachael Stevenson, Helen MacFarlane ) 7th Prelim Team Shillington Starlight ( Carrie Sherriff Abbie Warner Helen McFarlane, Lizzie Dodd) 1st Junior P7 Charlotte Kitchener 1st E43 Pippa Dixon 1st M61 Lauren Simmonds 2nd Intro B Helen Waites 2nd N39 Rachael Stevenson We also sent 2 teams to Rockingham international horse trials for the Team show jumping, where 4 riders jump 4 different height (70-1m) for a combined lowest team score, with a 10cm higher Joker fence to finish. The course proved influential with very few clear rounds, but our riders enjoyed the sunshine , shopping and rubbing shoulders with the Nation's eventing elite! A Friday showjumping training clinic was held at Ion farm Gravenhurst with instruction from Doug Jones, who was visiting from Ireland. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and were put through their paces over a course of fences. We also held the first in a series of evening Dressage competitions at Wakes End. The event was well attended and we saw lots of very smart combinations come down the centre line. The intro was won by Kay Sheppard & Boy, after a long break due to injury. Prelim 7 was won by Jessica Robb and Hawksdown Hocus Pocus and highest placed member 2nd place Tilly Gill and Romeo. The Novice was won by our own Committee member Verity Beaton on her mare Sapphire. Our next Dressage evening will be 22nd June. Shillington r.c also sent two 80cm teams and an individual 90cm to Stoneleigh r.c 2 day event at Princethorpe college. An amazing opportunity to compete long format over 2 days including roads, track and steeplechase. The teams headed up to Warwickshire for a fun filled couple of days at this beautiful venue. Lots of walking and talking, some food and drinks and even a few tears, but so many laughs and so many firsts achieved! Well done to all, and hopefully we'll be back again next year to make more memories with the Shilly Fillies! Looking ahead to June/July we kick off with some Jubilee Bank Holiday polework and jumping clinics. There are also some full day training events to enter on the Website at MKEC and Luffenhall. July's Area 7 qualifiers will be online to enter shortly- to compete for the club in Eventing, showjumping and Dressage to music as both team or individuals. Contact team manager Emily Steaggles if you're interested on competing for the club. Emily@design92.co.uk We hope you enjoy the summer with your horses and to see you at one of our events soon.
